Report: Jobi Varghese

The programme was inaugurated at 5:00 pm on Saturday, 17th January, 2004. About 35 participants joined the programme. During the introduction, everyone said why they wanted to join the year-long weekend Bible course. Some of them said they wanted to answer their neighbours' questions, some said they wanted to better teach catechism students, and others joined because they wanted to enlighten themselves with the treasure that the Bible is. One participant expressed her burning desire to know more about the word of God.

Dr Kuncheria Pathil, President of DVK, inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural speech, he re-iterated the significant role that the laity have got to play in the Church.

Fr John Marius Manickanamparambil, vicar of St Thomas Forane Church, Dharmaram, presided over the inaugural function. He quoted Mother Teresa's words - "Christ lives in my heart and I live in Christ's heart" - during his speech. He was confident that the Bible course would help strengthen the participants' faith.

The "Bible Course - 2004" presents a life-oriented approach, rather than just an academic perspective, to the study of the Bible.
